Is there really such a thing as a healthy cocktail? Not one you’d expect to find on a drink menu at a bar. There actually are some studies that show vodka in light moderation is good for your heart and may reduce your risk of certain conditions. All in all, a vodka club a day may have more health benefits than you know, but when you start adding all these sugary syrups to the mix, that all goes out the window.
So when I make a cocktail, I try to make it as healthy as I possibly can. All that sugar and syrups in drinks not only gives me a rocking headache, but I don’t enjoy putting junk like that in my body. This cocktail is incredibly simple, but tasty and the ingredients can be swapped out for others. Feel free to play with the measurements to your liking as well!
If you read my introduction post, you already know I’m a bartender. One day all of us went to our liquor rep’s building and had their bartender make us a variety of drinks to incorporate at our bar. All the drinks he made had what seemed to be an unnecessary amount of sugar in them and ingredients that not many people would have in their pantry. Since I’m always conscious about the amount of added sugar a product has, I wondered if there was an alternative to simple syrup or any of the artificial fruity syrups he used. He replied back with a simple “no”. Hearing that made me determined to find a way to sweeten a drink naturally so when someone asked me that question, I could reply back with a positive answer😁
The Blueberry Fizz Cocktail
- 2oz Vodka
- 1/2 of a Lemon
- A Handful of Blueberries (5-7)
- A Few Mint Leaves (4-5)
- Top with Club Soda
- Put your blueberries and mint in a cocktail shaker.
- Add your vodka and lime juice
- Muddle these ingredients together
- Add ice to shaker and shake
- Pour into a fresh glass
- Top it off with club soda
- Garnish with a fresh mint sprig & a few blueberries
If you find that it’s not sweet enough and don’t want to add sugar, I’ve made simple syrup from monkfruit sweetener before and used that. It works great! If you are unsure about how to make simple syrup all you do is mix equal parts hot water and sugar together.
If you find that it’s too strong or worried you may taste the vodka, start with 1.5oz of vodka first! You can also use lime instead of lemon. I’ve made it with both! Also, I’ve made a strawberry version on New Years Eve and it was so tasty! Any berry will work😋
Tell me in the comments if you make this and how you enjoyed yours! Also interested if anyone has other sugar free cocktail recipes to share❤️
Who doesn’t vodka in their sugar? JK! Great recipe. On my ‘to try’ list. Thank you! 👌🏻

😂😂😂 I’m all about those fresh, natural ingredients! If I’m gonna have sugar, I’d rather just have a cannoli😂 But thank you and keep me posted if you wind up trying it❤️

It’s on my to-do list as well. Blueberries are something I have daily for breakfast (and I grow my own as well in the summer). It sounds great although I’m not a big cocktail fan. I never think you can improve on the basic vodka-tonic.

Wow growing them your own? They’re probably twice as good! You can also make a mocktail out of this just take out the vodka 😊 I actually have a great tasting mocktail recipe in the works so stay tuned for that!
