Since I’ve told you guys about myself and my dog already, I figured I’d share a little bit about my future hubby and how we met. If you haven’t read about my pup, you should! The pictures of her will melt your heart🥺 Anway, Alex is 28 years old and he’s a high school history teacher.

He’s a lot smarter than me clearly, but that’s always been one of the most important qualities I looked for in a partner. Everyday he amazes me with something he knows that I didn’t think a single person on the planet knew. He’s very driven and will run his tank on empty. When we first met, he would go to work for 8 hours, coach swim, or track (depending on the season), then go to the gym or MMA. He hurt his back about a year ago so he no longer can do MMA which was his passion. He was supposed to have a fight a few months before we met, but the other guy backed out last minute. Boy am I glad that career didn’t happen.. it scares the crap out of me 😂 So, wanna know how we met?
Tinder
Yep, we met on an online dating website. I swore up and down to my friends that I would never make a Tinder. I thought it was creepy and disgusting and a good way to get kidnapped (I watch a lot of Investigation Discovery clearly). They would tell me horror stories of these men they went on dates with from Tinder so why on earth would I make one? Well, one day I was just so fed up. I was so fed up with meeting nothing but losers when I’d go out. They all seemed like they just wanted one thing and didn’t want a relationship. I felt I wasn’t getting an younger and I wanted to start settling down. I thought to myself, “what can I lose?” I made one. Within 2 days of having one, I matched with Alex. I thought he was so cute and his smile was mesmerizing. We hit it off from the start and talked everyday, all day for a week before meeting in person.

He grew up 25 minutes from where I grew up so I actually worked with someone who went to high school with him. Me and that friend went out to a bar after work one night and I told him about this guy I was going to meet. He asked for a name and a picture and when I said his name he looked at me with these squinty eyes. Well, he freaked out when I finally showed him the picture. It was him. His friend from high school. So that was a nice surprise and reassurance that I got before meeting him. At least I knew this guy wasn’t a serial killer.
The First Date
That morning I went out to brunch with two of my girlfriends. Now, you all know I suffer from anxiety (if not, see my blog post here) so I have been dreading this day since we met. I knew one day I was going to have to meet him and that thought terrified me. I contemplated not going and making an excuse, but something told me to go despite how nervous I was. I went and apparently (according to him) I was 30 minutes late. He was standing on the corner of the bar we met at looking just as good as he did online. His first impression when he saw me walking towards him was, “Oh god, she looks tall.” I’m 5’6 1/2, but I have obnoxiously long legs and arms. Funny, because I thought he looked short in his pictures (he’s 5’10). Crisis averted from both sides!

This was during the first week of November, so it wasn’t warm out. We decided to sit at the bar outside on the deck because there was no one there. I only wore an over sized sweater, no jacket so I was freezing the whole time. I kept denying his jacket to wear that he kept offering to me. I mean, this guy was practically a stranger to me despite us talking in texts all week. Thanks for the offer, but no thanks buddy. Anyways, we hit it off! No awkwardness at all. All that anxiety and stress that was building up over the week was for nothing.
We eventually went inside after about an hour because it was cold. Well, we honestly got pretty tipsy and stayed at the bar for hours. We met this group of guys, who knew it was our first date so they were buying us drinks all night. And we weren’t at the bar drinking vodka clubs or something casual like that. No, we were drinking red wine🤪 When it was time to leave, he walked me to my car and we stood there for a good 2 hours “talking”😘 Best first date of my entire life. This kid had work the next day too! Teacher of the year!
The Present

Alex and I were pretty serious from the first day. After a month of seeing each other seriously, we made it official. And after 4 months of making it official, we got an apartment together. And after a month of living together we got our biggest blessing, Jazz. The link to how we got her is here if you missed it! We’ve been dating for 2 1/2 years now and are stronger than ever! I feel that this quarantine either ruined people’s relationships or made them stronger. We were one of the lucky ones. Like every couple, we had our problems in the past, but we both saw it as something we could overcome. We never gave up on each other. We knew from that first date that this was real. For once, I met someone that was serious about me and wanted a life together. I am so happy I took that plunge and stepped out of my comfort zone to make a Tinder. I’ve learned to take chances in life because without them, I wouldn’t have my Alex or my Jazz.

😂 love it! Every time someone asks us where we met, my boyfriend is always so reluctant to say where. I think he’s embarrassed but he CLAIMS he’s not 😄💗

We get around it by saying the name of the bar where we met in person. Technically, it’s not a lie.

😂 very true! I’ll tell my SO to start saying that if he’s uncomfortable saying tinder🤪

Cute couple! ♥️ He sounds like a keeper! In your heart you just know that your SO is “the one.” We don’t have to second guess whether we are with the right guy or not because deep down, we just know.
I met my husband online too, on a site called OkCupid (before Tinder became popular). I’ve actually never used Tinder but at one point used a sketchy app called MeetMe, which I’m guessing is kinda like modern-day Tinder. When I first met my now husband, I was nervous meeting him in an unknown city at night by myself. Idk what I was thinking other than I had nothing to lose if he did end up murdering me in a corn field. Luckily, he’s not the creepy, murderer type.
We have been together since January 2013 and we’re approaching 5 years of marriage as of May 2021. My world has changed for the better because of my husband and I wouldn’t have it any other way! 🙂 There is so much flack around online dating sites but they aren’t all bad.
